During the Vaisakhi festival in 1699, Guru Gobind Singh established the Khalsa, which is the collective name for Sikhs who have been baptized.
He invited Sikhs willing to sacrifice their lives for their faith to enter a tent. Five men entered the tent, and the Guru emerged alone with a blood-stained sword, causing concern among the crowds.
However, the five men emerged from the tent unharmed, wearing turbans, and were known as Panj Piare or the 'Beloved Five,' the first members of the Khalsa.
