Two Capes Lookout Resort in Tierra Del Mar, Oregon, Is Now Open

  • Two Capes Lookout is a glamping resort located along the Oregon coast, two hours from Portland—it just opened on Feb. 21.
  • The property sits on 58 lush acres overlooking the Pacific Ocean and has an on-site old-growth forest, wetlands, and a historic quarry with a waterfall.
  • The resort has 15 geodesic domes and four mirrored cabins with panoramic views and amenities like Oregon-made bath products, in-room coffee and tea, and speedy WiFi.

The Oregon Coast may just be one of the most beautiful stretches of shoreline in the country, made famous in Hollywood films like “Kindergarten Cop,” “The Goonies,” and even “Twilight.” Now, there’s a new place where you can get up close and personal with the Beaver State’s legendary beaches: Two Capes Lookout

This glamping getaway, set on 58 acres of Sitka spruce forest overlooking the Pacific Ocean, opened on Feb. 21. Two Capes Lookout is located in Tierra Del Mar, a small, unincorporated community on the Oregon Coast—it’s an easy, two-hour scenic drive from Portland. More than 40 acres of the resort are undeveloped, giving guests the chance to explore wetlands, old-growth forests, and a historic quarry with a waterfall that’s active year-round, all without leaving the property. But perhaps the most enchanting aspect of the resort is its accommodations: it has 15 geodesic domes and four mirrored cabins.

The domes range from 294 to 404 square feet in size and feature high ceilings, en-suite hand sinks, refrigerators, heating units, and access to shared bathhouses. The 227-square-foot mirrored cabins have heated floors, a well-stocked wet bar, and private bathrooms. But no matter which accommodation type you pick, you will enjoy high-quality linens, Oregon-made bath products, a selection of in-room coffee and tea, speedy WiFi, and thoughtful interior design.

“I aimed for a Pacific Northwest-inspired, yet fresh feel,” the property’s interior designer, Max Humphrey, said in a statement to Travel + Leisure. “[I drew inspiration] from the outdoors, where greenery and blue are everywhere—the idea was to blend the interior spaces with the natural surroundings.”

And there is truly much to be inspired by in Tierra del Mar. If you want to venture beyond the property, Two Capes Lookout has partnered with several local businesses and outfitters to help guests connect with the local environment. You could kayak the nearby Nestucca River with Nestucca River Adventures, try your hand at catching lingcod and Dungeness crab with Dory Boat Fishing, or pick up some “rockhounding” (aka rock collecting) gear at Pier Avenue Rock Shop. After a busy day in the great outdoors, guests can unwind around the property’s communal firepit and take in the sights and sounds of the Pacific (the beach is just a ten-minute walk).

“We believe that once people experience the tranquility and natural beauty of this area, they will fall in love with it—just as we have,” said cofounders Anna and Kevin Gindlesperger in a press release.

Nightly rates at Two Capes Lookout start from $275 per night for geodesic domes and at $346 per night for mirrored cabins.
