Why I Wear the Salomon XT-Whisper Sneaker Daily

As a fashion writer, fitness instructor, and avid traveler living in Los Angeles, I am always on the lookout for the best new “it-girl” athletic sneaker. I wear sneakers every single day due to my active lifestyle, so if there is one thing I pack on every trip (and one item I do not feel guilty buying multiple pairs of), it’s a sturdy, stylish walking shoe. My new favorites are my Salomon XT-Whispers—from the moment I laced them up, it was love at first step. 

I officially bought my first pair of XT-Whispers about a month ago after wearing them on a sportswear photoshoot I was in. These Salomons look great with any and all casualwear—I have worn them with joggers, sweatpants, oversized T-shirt-and-bike-short combos, leggings, and more. I think they look best paired with an ankle or higher sock to really lean into the silhouette’s old-school design.

Looks aside, it’s their feel that stands out most. If I were only packing one pair of shoes for a trip, my Salomon sneakers would make the cut. These shoes required zero break-in time, which is ideal if you happen to purchase them right before your trip. The supportive construction and cushioned OrthoLite insoles make the shoe feel and look like it’s customized to my foot, which is probably why I fell in love with it so quickly.

Since I’m always on the go, the laceless lifestyle is definitely for me, and after testing these Salmon shoes, I fear I cannot go back. Usually, after a month of wear, my shoelaces are already super dirty or knotted to the point of no return, but with Salomon’s Quicklace style, I just put on my shoe, tighten slightly, and go. I also love the traction on the bottom of the sneaker, which is some of the best I have ever worn. It almost feels sharp to the touch, like a hiking boot’s lug sole, but it is not bulky or cumbersome.

I have since worn my XT-Whispers every single day for a month, and have already debated buying another pair in the exact same Vanilla Ice/Almond Milk colorway just to have as back up. I love classic white sneakers, but since I am so active, my shoes tend to get dirty quicker than the average person’s. The slightly-warmer tones of this still-neutral shade have stayed looking fresh even after over 30-straight days of wear, and still pair perfectly with all of my favorite active and travel looks.
