Best Sweatpant Jeans Overall

As a busy mom of two, I’m always looking for capsule pieces that elevate my daily wardrobe without sacrificing comfort or style. So, unsurprisingly, I jumped on the sweatpant-jeans train as fast as I could and didn’t think twice about buying a pair of the now-vira, Oprah-loved Rag & Bone “sweans” made from 100 percent cotton. I loved how they felt—but not the limited color options—so I widened my search and eventually found an even more versatile pair on TikTok.

At just $45, the Halara Flex Baggy Wide-leg Casual Jeans were definitely a more budget-friendly pick—but I went in with low expectations. After pulling them on for the first time, I was pleasantly surprised. The cotton-blended fabric feels soft and stretchy without losing its shape, offering legging-like comfort with a more polished look. Plus, with a flexible waistband that’s nonrestrictive and lightweight material, I can move comfortably throughout the day.

Unlike the Rag & Bone pants, these Halara pants offer more inclusive sizing. Available in XXS to 3X, the jeans are designed to fit a wide range of body types and come in regular, extra petite, petite, tall, and extra-tall lengths. I’m 5-foot-four-inches tall on a good day, so having different length options is always a plus for me. With the Rag & Bone pair, I bought the cropped version—which fit me full-length— but it shrank after washing. The Halara “jeans,” fortunately, haven’t done that. Available in over 10 washes, they have an option for just about every style. I own the Frost Blue wash, which is dark enough to dress up for day or night and surprisingly versatile. For spring, I’d consider picking up a lighter pair as well.

While the Halara sweatpant jeans don’t have a faux button or zipper printed on them, the side and back pockets and subtle flared leg help them pass for real denim, and you wouldn’t know otherwise unless you were examining them closely.

These pants have become a staple in my everyday working-mom wardrobe, and, unsurprisingly, they’ve earned a spot in my travel lineup, too. My test for true comfort is simple—would I wear it on a plane? These passed with flying colors: I wore them on a three-hour flight to Florida and stayed comfortable the entire time.

My Halara sweatpant jeans are proof that you can jump on the “swean” trend without breaking the bank. Shop seven more styles I’m eyeing up for my travel wardrobe below, from Amazon, Gap, Old Navy, and more.

Unlike most sweatpants, these Quince “sweans” have a straighter silhouette rather than a baggy fit, making them just as appropriate for the office as for running errands. The soft knit fabric strikes the right balance of stretch and structure, while thoughtful details—such as front and back patch pockets, a zipper closure, and a waistband button—help them resemble traditional denim. They’re available in three colors, including navy and darker cool tones for a more polished look, while the faded cargo option leans casual.
