Join me on an epic journey to Torres Del Paine National Park in Chilean Patagonia! I’m so excited to offer this unique way to experience and see the park as well as immerse yourself in the estancia culture of the region.

In 2023, I took did this trip as a trial run to work out the kinks and to promote it as a new way to see Patagonia. It ended up being one of my favorite trips I’ve ever taken, and I didn’t want it to end. I loved everything about this adventure – it spoke to me in so many ways – through culture, adventure, challenge, wildlife, friendships, food, and remote landscapes – all wrapped up in a great journey to get to Torres del Paine. I knew immediately that I would offer this as an Ottsworld tour because it was everything I love about travel – and I wanted to share that with others.

Each day you will have the opportunity to see wildlife, meet locals, and see the famous torres (towers) of the Paine Mountain Range. You’ll find a delicious dinner, and unique lodging at the end of every day along with some famous Chilean wine! You’ll also have the opportunity to learn more about the estancia culture and how it fits into Patagonia’s history, and there will also be some opportunities to hike.

While all of the other tourists are fighting the crowds on the W trek, we’ll be riding in wide open spaces with no one else around except herds of wild horses, guancos, sheep, condors, and ria birds. We’ll enjoy some of the best views of the park from a distance in the heart of the grasslands. Each day we get closer and closer to the towers and the park entrance, and on the last day we enter the park through a little known entrance, and see our first cars and signs of tourism as we ride through the park with an up close view of the towers, waterfalls, and more!

Daily Itinerary

DAY 1: ARRIVAL DAY

Transfer from Puerto Natales airport to Puerto Natales City.  If you arrive in the morning, then today you will have time to explore Puerto Natales, one of the southernmost cities in the world!

Located 250 km northwest of Punta Arenas, Puerto Natales is located in front of the Última Esperanza Sound between the sea, forests and Patagonian mountains. The city represents the gateway to Torres del Paine National Park and the ideal excursion base from which to visit a myriad of other outstanding alternatives offered by Chilean Patagonia.

This afternoon we will go into town for a briefing and bike fitting at Chile Nativo offices.

Today’s accommodation is Puerto Bories Guest House, located on the edge of Seno de Última Esperanza, Bories Guest House is a country home fashioned with English- Patagonian architecture. Directly in front of Bories Port are impressive views of the Seno de Última Esperanza, Balmaceda Glacier and the surrounding mountains.

Night at Estancia Puerto Bories
Included: D

DAY 2: BIKE TO MILODON + CERRO CASTILLO

After enjoying breakfast, we will embark on a biking adventure by a scenic route through the coast of Ultima Esperanza and Eberhard Fjords, to Puerto Pratt, the first Chilean town officially created in 1899 with the purpose of consolidating Chilean territory in Última Esperanza. Continue to Puerto Consuelo, an estancia founded in 1893 by Hermann Eberhard while he was searching for suitable land to farm sheep. From his settlement, Eberhard explored the area and eventually discovered the Mylodon Cave.

Then we will continue across the road until we reach Mylodon Cave National Monument where we will learn about the ancient history and animals of the region and enjoy lunch. After the monument transfer to Estancia Complejo Torres del Paine (30 min). From there you can take the van or pedal for thirty-five kilometers on Castillo Viejo Road alongside beautiful Patagonian landscapes before arriving at Villa Cerro Castillo to rest.

E-Bike ride to Puerto Prat, Puerto Consuelo & Milodón Cave (20 kms/12.4 mi gravel road & 4kms/2.5 mi paved road)

Transfer to Estancia Complejo Torres del Paine (30 min) & optional bike to Estancia Dos Elianas (35 kms/21.7 mi gravel road)

Night at Estancia Dos Elianas
Included: BLD

DAY 3: E-BIKE RIDE TO ESTANCIA SAN LUIS

Start the first part of your day gazing at Paine Massif postcard landscapes enroute to San Luis Estancia. Today you’ll get your first look at the towers in the distance.  Bike by estancias, and plenty of wildlife on this scenic gravel road.

Estancia San Luis is located on Chilean-Argentinian land once owned by the Sociedad Explotadora de Tierra del Fuego, former cattle raising company. Currently, it extends about 13,000 hectares, on which livestock farming was its main activity for more than forty-five years. With hard work and perseverance, the family business managed to diversify activities to include tourism, so that, today, we can enjoy panoramic landscapes of Paine and Sierra Baguales, your next destination.

10kms/6.2 mi paved road + 42 kms/26 mi gravel road

Night at Estancia San Luis
Included: BLD (Private Chef)

DAY 4: ESTANCIA SAN LUIS TO 3R

Today we’ll ride from San Luis to Estancia Cerro Guido, where we will take a moment to have a cultural half day Tour in Cerro Guido to learn more about estancias, later we will continue riding towards Sierra Baguales, an isolated volcanic mountain range with jagged reliefs caused by the great basaltic plateau’s suffering of erosion, which, surrounded by yellow steppes, make up deeply moving — lonely and pristine — images.

Away from busy tourist attractions, the Hacienda 3R in Sierra Baguales offers the peace and rawness that characterize Patagonia, an environment remaining detained in time, optimal for contemplation and breathing in Patagonian life. In 2018, Hacienda 3R opened its doors to the public, allowing for tourist exploitation on some demarcated trails. To not interfere with the landscape and its inhabitants, the trails are not marked, so visits to the hacienda, like yours’s, are led by guides.

40kms/25mi on gravel road

Night at Estancia 3R
Included: BLD (Private Chef)

DAY 5: ESTANCIA 3R TO TERCERA BARRANCA

This morning we will have two options. We can either wake up early for a mini-trek through the nearby forest to catch glimpses of beautiful mountain and valley views, or we can sleep in a bit for a more relaxed morning (choice to be made the day before).

Afterwards we will depart from Estancia 3R and head back, we will descend along the same path as yesterday until we reach a clearing where we will take the route westward to our next destination: Tercera Barranca Ranch. Here, we will enjoy an afternoon barbecue. Estancia Tercera Barranca is a charming countryside retreat nestled in the heart of nature. Guests can enjoy the tranquility of the countryside and immerse themselves in the rustic charm of the property.

Night at Estancia Tercera Barranca
Included: BLBBQ

DAY 6: BIKE LOOP LAGUNA AZUL

You will not leave Torres del Paine National Park before doing one last exquisite ride from Laguna Azul to Laguna Amarga, passing Macho Canyon, spotting large groups of guanacos, and stopping at the iconic Paine Waterfall.

After breakfast, we take a 30-min transfer to Laguna Azul park entrance. We will start riding towards Cañadón Macho (horse-shoe shape ride), located on the border of Torres del Paine National Park. This is an area abundant in wildlife where we will be able to watch out for guanacos, foxes, coots, swans, ducks and woodpeckers. Moreover, the lagoon offers a great view of the three Towers.

After this great biking experience, we’ll go back to Puerto Natales to finalize your adventure right where you started, Estancia Puerto Bories. Farewell dinner at Chile Nativo Quincho with private chef.

This is your last day of your trip and we hope you had a wonderful time with us. Have a safe flight back home!

How to Get To/From Puerto Natales

Most people from the US will fly into Santiago and then onward to Puerto Natales. The airlines that offer flights between these two airports are JetSmart and Sky Airline, and tickets are around 75 to 100 USD each way. The flight takes 3 hours.

Depending on flights times – you may have to stay one night in Santiago (it’s a beautiful city and I can recommend some great tours there!) and then catch a morning flight onward to Puerto Natales.

Our Host – Chile Nativo

I’m working with my friends at Chile Nativo to put this trip together. They are a local operator and are experts in Patagonia and specifically Torres Del Paine; they will be running the trip. I simply work with them to customize the trip to my liking. You can read more about them here.

Who Should Consider This Tour?

According to Chile Nativo, this itinerary is considered ‘Demanding’

Travelers should have strong physical stamina, be comfortable on a bike, and riding on gravel. Activities can be up to 6 to 8 hours a day. Weather can be extreme.
Our lodging at estancias is authentic and basic, but the estancia experience and views are anything but basic! You must be willing to share bathrooms, sleep in bunk beds, and share rooms. No single supplements are available.

You also must be willing to rough it a bit since we are in a very remote part of the world. You may not have internet connection that is great, or you may have to pee by the roadside in the middle of the day. This is not a luxury tour – this is an active, outdoor tour where weather can easily effect our daily plans, so you’ll need to be flexible when traveling in Patagonia. So the best thing you can do is come with a good, flexible attitude.
