A fire broke out on Sunday (May 7) in a gold mine located in a remote area of ​​southern Peru. At least 27 laborers died in this accident. The local officials gave information about this. He has considered this incident as one of the worst mining tragedies in the history of Peru.
As soon as the news of the fire broke out in the gold mine, the relatives of the victims reached the spot to search for their loved ones. The wife of one of the victims who died in the accident broke down crying. Federico Idme Mamani, the 51-year-old husband of a woman named Roya Marcelina Aguirre, also became a victim of the accident.
Short circuit caused mine fire
Marcelina Aguirre wept bitterly over the death of her husband. At the same time, the victim’s brother Francisco said that we know that there was a short circuit inside the mine, after which there was an explosion, we are very shocked by whatever happened. Local police have confirmed that the fire started in a tunnel inside the La Esperanza 1 mine in the Arequipa region.
Short circuit is being told the reason for the fire. Public prosecutor Giovanni Matos told Channel N television that 27 people died inside the mine. However, local media had earlier said the fire started after a mine explosion in Condesuyos province, 10 hours from the regional capital Arequipa city.

According to Peruvian local media reports, a wooden pole inside the mine caught fire due to an explosion caused by a short circuit. And the depth of the mine was 100 meters. The news of the fire was published in the local media only when the police had collected the details of the dead. Before extricating the bodies of the victims, the rescue team was engaged in trying to secure the mine.
During this, a person associated with the rescue team said that we have to make a place where the dead are safe, so that we can go inside the mine and recover the dead bodies. James Casquino, the mayor of Yanaquihua, told the Andina news agency that most of the miners may have died of suffocation and burns. Earlier in the year 2022, a total of 39 people had died in a mining-related accident.
