Waking up early to catch the breathtaking sunrise is truly a must-do when you’re in Barcelona. The sun rises over the sea, casting a beautiful array of colors and creating a unique scene you can enjoy from various spots while doing different activities.

In this post, I’ll share some ideas that I’ve tried as a local to help you make the most of your early morning in Barcelona.

So, set that alarm and start your day with a fantastic sunrise in Barcelona.

How To Enjoy Sunrise in Barcelona

Check out these great spots to enjoy the sunrise in Barcelona.

1. Magic in Montjuic

Start your day surrounded by the beauty of Montjuïc, a prominent hill in Barcelona that offers stunning city views during sunrise. This hill, with its significance as a focal point during the 1992 Summer Olympics, not only provides awesome panoramic views but also houses numerous sculptures and locales with historical value, such as the Olympic Park and Olympic Stadium—where allegedly the best Olympic Games ever were inaugurated.

Various spots are well worth exploring, including the Montjuïc Castle—a fortress located at the hill’s summit, built in the 17th century, which has served various purposes throughout history, including military use and as a prison.

Another noteworthy stop is the Miramar Hotel viewpoint, where the famous Barcelona “Telefèric” makes a stop.

Finally, don’t miss the Montjuïc Gardens—a green haven where you can take a leisurely stroll and admire its captivating sculptures and fountains.

2. Front row views: Sunrise Sailing Cruise

A sunrise cruise in Barcelona is a fantastic morning activity for all ages with a truly magical highlight. Watching the sun rise above the sea horizon while sailing the Mediterranean is beautiful and quite a spiritual experience… and having done it multiple times… I can’t recommend it enough!

The early-morning sea is always really calm, with no boats around, a gentle breeze and no waves. As you cruise, keep your eyes open as you may catch sight of dolphins, big tuna, and other fish jumping out of the water as they look for their early morning meal. Check out the best sunrise cruise in Barcelona; if you’re courageous enough, they even give you the opportunity to take an early morning refreshing dip at open sea!

3. Beachside Fitness: Sunrise Calisthenics Session

For those seeking a sporty start to the day, consider a calisthenics session on Barcelona’s beach. The city has three public calisthenics gyms along the coastline – one in Vila Olímpica, another in Barceloneta, and a third in Poblenou.

To start your morning with positive vibes and a healthy dose of sweat, wear your sporty attire and dedicate 30-45 minutes to calisthenics training. Exercising against the backdrop of the beach creates an energetic ambiance. After your session, you’ll feel like going for a quick, refreshing swim in the sea!

4. Paddle Surf Session

Another great activity for active and adventurous people is grabbing a paddle-board and joining Sup Sunrise Barcelona for a paddle surf session. Picture yourself on the water, catching the first rays of the day. It’s not just a workout; it’s a unique way to experience sunrise over the Mediterranean.

With the city as your backdrop and the tranquility of the sea, this sunrise paddle surf session adds an exhilarating twist to your Barcelona morning routine.

5. Sunrise breakfast at Carretera de les Aigües

Get a panoramic view of the whole city in the famous Carretera de les Aigües, located at the high end of Barcelona. You can reach it by car and bus, but the easiest way to get there is by taking the Ferrocarril. This cool path allows you to see Barcelona from above while being surrounded by nature.

Pack some breakfast, sit back, and enjoy the sunrise painting the city. It’s like your private lookout point – a peaceful and exciting way to start the day.

6. Fishing Trip

This sunrise activity in Barcelona is for both experienced anglers and inexperienced fishing enthusiasts! Early morning is Barcelona’s prime fishing time, with fish more active during these periods as they look for an early morning feast. A fishing trip in Barcelona is a fantastic way to uncover a whole new side of the city.

Vela has fishing trips available for individuals or private groups from 7:30 am to 10:30 am, starting at 89€. Check it out!

A unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the tranquility of the morning sea, and the excitement of fishing species like tuna, albacore, mahi mahi, mackerel and many more.
